Ayaz Ali - Assignment 25

  • Existing Market
    • Step 1: I think the next step in terms of products and services is to get the materials needed together, and see just how popular our product can become. We will need to see how many potential customers there are and all the specifics as to which schools in which areas would be interested in purchasing.
    • Step 2
      • 1) In the first interview, former professor, Mr. Jones, I explained to him the idea and what he thinks I should do next. He explained how we should be planning for failure just in case. he explained to me how to have a backup plan and things like that in case the idea does not go as we want it to. Mr. Jones made a valid point, and it made me contemplate wether my ideas were going to be successful and if I am thinking way too greatly of the product. He did not think the customers should really have more demands than this.
      • 2) The next interview, was a former teacher of mine, Ms. Laurel, and she explained how she really enjoyed my idea, but does not know how many schools would implement it. She explained how there are many other factors in the situation and we may never know what is going to happen.
    • I think based off the feedback, me and the company should be prepared for negative feedbacks just in case. It seems maybe our expectations are still high and that maybe some things could go wrong. Regardless, the idea will not change and we will continue to go through with the plan.
  • New Market
    • Step 1: I think through this entire process, I have been looking at schools in good, rural areas, but I did not even think about the schools who were not as good and not in the best areas. I think all schools would love the product, but maybe some could not even afford it. I think in certain cases we would work with less loaded schools and help them set something up where they can still receive the product.
    • Step 2: I think people in that market would still like to feel safe and see their schools make an effort to fix issues. In the end, they would want what everyone else is getting as well and they should receive the same benefits.
    • Step 3
      • Interview 1: One of my friends, Jake, went to a school in Deerfield Beach that was not really in the best area, and he explained how he still would love for the idea to be implemented because ideas like these should not be based on academic successes, but just looking at it from a human viewpoint.
      • Interview 2: My friend, Maria, explained how even though her school was not in the best area, it was necessary there too. She explained how since the area was not the best, she would see lots of fighting and people bringing in weapons to school, so in a way it might be more valuable in areas like these.
    • Step 4: I think after looking into and speaking with people from this new market, we as a company need to evaluate which schools need this product sooner than other schools. I think schools in worse areas should implement these first because they are more used to seeing arguing and fighting breaking out, rather than schools in better areas. In the end, all schools will be or at least should be looking into the idea, but schools in less successful areas should be looking into them sooner.

  1. Hi Ayaz. I think you’re correct in thinking the next step for your business is to see how many potential customers there are and which areas your customers are concentrated in. I agree with your existing market conclusion that you should be prepared for negative feedback, but I wouldn’t let that discourage you from your business because you must demonstrate the value of what your offering to customers, it doesn’t happen automatically. One recommendation I have for your new market strategy is to offer schools a trial period where they can try out your product to see its positive effects before making the purchase official, easing concerns about the price of the product.

  2. Hey Ayaz,
I think you have a solid solution to a problem that needs to be solved. However, I would definitely consider test marketing to identify the strategy you'll need to be able to get into the school districts, county councils, and legislators. You will likely have to sell through lobbyists and that can be a tricky market that you will have to have a special plan to reach.
