Ayaz Ali - Assignment 21
Assignment 21
Reading Reflection No. 2
- The book I chose was "How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big", by Scott Adams
- The general theme of this book was that you can fail and that is okay. The author explained many instances as to how many famous people failed. They failed many, many times, but the idea of failure is not as bad as it seems. Everyone has to fail to make it big. The author explained how many famous creators and people did not start off at a young age. Many of these people struggled early in their lives, but then kept working at their goals and eventually made it. Never quit, and do not ever be afraid to lose.
- In my opinion, this book connects perfectly with this class and what we are learning. Sometimes your ideas may not work out the way you want them to, and there will be times when you hear very discouraging responses, but you have to keep going. Learning how to take constructive criticism is very key to being a successful entrepreneur. Many of the greats fail and we cannot let it bring us down.
- I think a great exercise in regards to this book, would be to explain a time in which you failed and what were your thoughts? How were you reacting to the failure? How did you bounce back, and what would you have changed?
- I think the biggest surprise in the book was definitely seeing all the greats that failed. Seeing some of the greatest people in history fail at first, and start there products/careers in their 30's and 40's really was crazy to see. Not everyone has the same process and time scale. Trust your process and continue to do what you're doing. In the end, everything will work out. This example in the book showed me that there is hope for all of us. We have to keep our heads high and stay confident with ourselves that we can do it.
Hi Ayaz. I think it’s remarkable how many famous people failed several times before they became successful. It’s really a testament to how persistence and dedication can pay off. I agree that we should not be afraid to lose. If we avoid trying at anything for fear of failing, then we will never accomplish our goals. It’s important to learn from your mistakes and get the valuable insights that come from failing. One recommendation I have is to further explore what consistent themes arose among the successful people who failed before they made it big and see how you can apply that knowledge to your journey.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a really interesting book. I think I'll have to add it to my list. I agree that it is incredible to hear how many times the "legends" have failed. Even more so, how many times they failed at the same thing! I have found in business that you certainly will fail, and you'll do it hundreds of times. Maybe not in catastrophic ways, but you'll fail daily in little ways. You have to look for your lessons and move forward over and over.
